CastExpo 2019: Metalcasting success starts here
It’s three years in the making: North America’s largest metalcasting trade show and congress. Now, CastExpo 2019 is nearly here.
Produced by AFS, CastExpo 2019 is April 27-30 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Thousands are expected to attend, making it the continent’s biggest gathering of the metalcasting supply chain in 2019.

OSU, Central Ohio chapters have strong partnership
Eric Weiffenbach remembers visiting Ohio State University’s working foundry as a boy with his father. Today, Weiffenbach (Keener Sand & Clay Co.) continues that tradition – this time, as president of the AFS Central Ohio Chapter.
Every fall, the Central Ohio Chapter and the OSU Student Chapter come together for a joint dinner and meeting on campus at OSU. It’s an opportunity for the students to present their work and network with professionals, and a chance for the pros share their knowledge and recruit students into the industry.

Industry earns wins on water infrastructure, sweepers
A new water infrastructure law and an agreement from OSHA on non-HEPA sweepers highlight recent policy victories for the metalcasting industry.
A comprehensive infrastructure bill backed by AFS won resounding support from Congress. America’s Water Infrastructure Act (S. 3021) provides more than $6 billion in funding for civil works projects nationwide, as well as important improvements for drinking water and wastewater infrastructure.
The bipartisan measure was signed into law by President Donald Trump in October.
EHS Division honors award-winners
A new award for green foundries and a lifetime achievement award for AFS 2nd Vice President Mike Lenahan were among the honors presented by the EHS Division at the AFS 30th Environmental, Health & Safety Conference in Ohio Oct. 9-11.

AFS meets CIC
AFS staff met with the next generation of metalcasters at the Foundry Educational Foundation's College Industry Conference, Nov. 15-16 in Chicago.
The annual event attracts promising students at FEF schools who are looking for careers in metalcasting. Prospective employers meet with the students, many of whom come away with internships and job offers.
AFS was on hand to answer questions and network with students and professors. Andrew Rose of Penn State University also was presented with a scholarship from Modern Casting magazine.
