The American Foundry Society has launched a new website that serves the needs and advances the interests of the modern metalcasting industry. In aligning with the association’s strategic direction, the new afsinc.org now has a greater focus on several key elements: much-improved navigation for users, streamlined information about careers in metalcasting, a clear presentation of the economic importance of the industry to our modern quality of life, and one-stop access to information for casting designers and buyers.
The American Foundry Society has announced the 124th Metalcasting Congress will be held April 21-23, 2020, at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland, Cleveland, Ohio. The last time Cleveland hosted the show was in 1974. Columbus was the last Ohio city to host the event, in 2012.

Two students shared first prize in the 2018 AFS/FEF Student Technology Contest at the 122nd Metalcasting Congress in Fort Worth, Texas, April 4.
Trevor Constance from Missouri University of Science & Technology and David Sánchez from Instituto Tecnológico de Saltillo were named co-winners of the annual competition, which required students to create digital posters of their metalcasting research and present their projects at Congress.
The American Foundry Society recognized leaders and luminaries in the field of metalcasting during the 122nd Metalcasting Congress, April 3-5 in Fort Worth, Texas.
The AFS Board of Awards presented the metalcasting industry’s top honor, the Gold Medal Awards, to John R. Keough, P.E., and David V. Neff, Ph.D.
Keough, proprietor of Joyworks LLC (Ann Arbor, Michigan), was awarded the Thomas W. Pangborn Gold Medal “for pioneering efforts in the advancement of the marketing of metal castings through the education of current and future customers.”
Stephen Moore, a senior Trump campaign adviser and one of the architects of the tax cut bill in late 2017, provided metalcasters with an optimistic outlook for the U.S. economy at the 122nd Metalcasting Congress in Fort Worth, Texas. The PowerPoint to his presentation is here.
"I think we're looking at the single best outlook for the U.S. economy in 20 years. It hasn't looked this good in a long time,” Moore said.
Jean Bye became the first woman to serve as president of the American Foundry Society April 5 at the 122nd Metalcasting Congress in Fort Worth, Texas.
The U.S. Department of Commerce formally announced its procedures for companies seeking exemptions from the Trump administration’s recently announced tariffs on steel and aluminum product imports. The department will start accepting exclusion requests on Monday, March 19, 2018 from U.S. businesses that use the metal in manufacturing cars, trucks, construction, food packaging, beverage packaging, or other commercial activities.
