During the high temperatures of August, AFS reminds members how to help control the potential hazards of heat stress.
In 2008, AFS and Alliance (An OSHA Cooperative Program) jointly published “Establishing a Foundry Heat Stress Management Program,” which is available as a free download.
Additionally, while OSHA does not have a specific standard that covers working in hot environments but it does have a number of training documents that metalcasters might find useful. Keep in mind these documents don’t cover the metalcasting industry specifically but could be useful training tools. “Water.Rest.Shade. A Guide for Employers to Carry Out Heat Safety Training for Workers,” by the U.S. Dept. of Labor and OSHA is a heat illness prevention guide that walks the facilitator through the training session, provides questions, posters, etc., for avoiding heat stress.
