Metalcasters and industry suppliers from across the country will gather on Capitol Hill the week of June 19-23, 2023, for AFS Metalcasters Week in Washington, D.C. The week, which coincides with the annual AFS Government Affairs Fly-In on June 20-21, is dedicated to advocating for U.S. metalcasters, who will meet with approximately 100 Senate and House offices.
The metalcasting industry is a vital component of the U.S. manufacturing sector, providing highly engineered metal components to key industries, including aerospace, defense, automotive, and energy. However, policy issues ranging from permitting reform, tax extenders, and harmful potential new air regulations, to Buy America, trade enforcement, workforce policies, and OSHA regulations all have major implications for American metalcasters.
AFS Metalcasters Week in D.C. is an opportunity for industry professionals to meet with elected officials and policymakers to discuss these issues and advocate for policies that support the growth and sustainability of the industry.
During the week, AFS will host a series of events, including congressional meetings, briefings, and a reception, where participants can share their perspectives with policymakers and peers. The events aim to highlight the industry's contributions to the economy and our quality of life, while also emphasizing the need for commonsense policies that encourage the strength of our nation’s manufacturing sector.
"AFS Metalcasters Week in D.C. is a unique opportunity for our industry to come together and speak with one voice on issues that affect us all," said Doug Kurkul, CEO of AFS. "We look forward to engaging with policymakers and advancing policies that promote the competitiveness of the U.S. metalcasting industry."
Highlighting the Fly-In will be a keynote presentation from Kellyanne Conway, former White House counselor. Additionally, Sen. Todd Young (IN-R) and Rep. Kay Granger (TX-R) will receive AFS Congressional Champion Awards for their support of the metalcasting industry. The Fly-In will be held at the convenient, newly remodeled Hotel Washington, one block off Pennsylvania Avenue. To register or for more information, click here.
