The former U.S. naval commander who transformed an underachieving destroyer into the “best damn ship in the Navy” will share his vision of leadership and teamwork during one of CastExpo 2022’s keynote presentations.
When Captain D. Michael Abrashoff boarded the USS Benfold as its new commander, it was plagued by low morale and staggeringly high turnover. But within 12 months, it had the best performance rating in the Navy – achieved by the same crew Abrashoff had inherited. How did he do it? By switching from command-and-control leadership to commitment and cohesion.
Abrashoff’s CastExpo keynote, “Lessons From a Former Navy Commander,” will explore how metalcasters can use the lessons he applied in the Navy to energize their workforces by focusing on the one thing managers can influence – the workplace cultures they create.
Abrashoff is the best-selling author of It’s Your Ship: Management Techniques From the Best Damn Ship in the Navy. Since leaving the Navy, he has worked with more than 1,200 organizations to instill leadership initiatives. An in-demand public speaker, he focuses on engagement, execution, change, safety, diversity, leadership, teamwork, innovation, and accountability.
“Lessons From a Former Navy Commander” is one of three keynotes happening live at CastExpo 2022, April 23-26 in Columbus, Ohio. Abrashoff will kick off the keynote series on Saturday, April 23 at 10:30 a.m.
Keynotes are included with admission to CastExpo 2022, North America’s largest metalcasting trade show and congress. To learn more about exhibits, education sessions, special events, and other benefits of attending CastExpo, or to register, click here.
