The American Foundry Society is proud to honor Michelle Ring as the recipient of the 2020 Women in Metalcasting Award for Excellence.
Ring is Technical Sales Manager at AFS Corporate Member American Colloid Co. She is very active in AFS and holds many volunteer leadership positions, including serving as secretary to the Molding Methods & Materials Division Green Sand Committee, secretary to the Women in Metalcasting (WIM) Division, and chair of the AFS Central Indiana Chapter. Ring is an advocate for women pursuing careers in metalcasting and has spoken at WIM events about work-life balance.
The Women in Metalcasting Award for Excellence is presented annually to a woman or man who has been an exceptional leader, champion, mentor and/or role model for women in the metalcasting industry. Founded in 2014, Women in Metalcasting is an AFS shared interest group focused on providing a platform for women in the industry to develop avenues for networking, mentorship and sharing of ideas, experiences and best practices that will benefit members both professionally and personally.
In addition to Ring’s work in metalcasting, she also volunteers countless hours outside work with the Parent Teacher Organization, as chair for youth soccer leagues, and as a Girl and Boy Scout leader. She graduated from the University of Illinois in 2004 with a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering – Metallurgy. Ring held quality and manufacturing engineering management roles at Navistar Foundries and Gartland Foundry prior to joining American Colloid.
