The annual AFS award-winners have been announced by the AFS Board of Awards for presentation at Metalcasting Congress 2020 in Cleveland, Ohio, April 21-23.
The Gold Medal, Award of Scientific Merit and Service Citation Award are presented annually for service to the metalcasting industry. Dennis Dotson, chairman, Dotson Iron Castings (Mankato, Minnesota), Kumar Sadayappan, research scientist, CanmetMATERIALS (Hamilton, Ontario, Canada), and Theodore Schorn, vice president quality and tech, Enkei America Inc. (Columbus, Indiana) will be given the industry’s top honor—the AFS Gold Medal.
Dotson will receive the Peter L. Simpson Gold Medal for “outstanding contributions in promoting public esteem or service which reflects credit on the metalcasting industry.”
Sadayappan will receive the John A. Penton Gold Medal for “outstanding technical, engineering or managerial contributions to the non-ferrous sector of the industry.”
Schorn will receive the Thomas W. Pangborn Gold Medal for “outstanding contributions in education and sharing of knowledge within the industry.”

• Sam Ramrattan, FEF Key Professor, Western Michigan University (Kalamazoo, Michigan)
• Jeff Sorenson, director of operations, Lee Brass Co. (Anniston, Alabama).
