Human resources professionals and front-line supervisors took themselves out to the ballgame July 24 for a roundtable organized by the AFS HR Division.
About 50 people representing 20 organizations attended the event at Miller Park in Milwaukee. People shared ideas about workforce issues impacting the metalcasting industry, such as recruiting and retaining talent, creating cultures of continuous feedback, and developing a skilled workforce from within. The night was rounded out with a Brewers vs. Nationals game which went into extra innings.
“In a manufacturing environment, flexibility solutions for employees was a topic that created a lot of buzz about how small changes can impact their workforces,” said AFS Director of Human Resources Cathy Potts. “One of the ideas was to put the flexibility option to different departments in your organization, and see what types of flexible schedules that support the business the shop floor can come up with on their own. If you get the employees involved, they feel like part of the process and that their voice is being valued and heard.
“The event concluded with all sharing easy ways to create your employer brand,” Potts continued. “It was a great night for a ballgame, and the Brewers won!”
