What metalcasters have long known – the great value of Modern Casting magazine – was confirmed recently as Modern Casting managing editor Shannon Wetzel won an AZBEE Award of Excellence from the American Society of Business Publication Editors.
Wetzel received the AZBEE Bronze National Award during a ceremony May 10 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., for her Modern Casting columns, “The Game-Changer Issue” and “Metalcasting is a Livelihood.” AZBEEs recognize excellence in
journalism for business-to-business and trade publications.
Wetzel qualified as a national finalist for having one of the highest scoring submissions in all regions at the ASBPE Upper Midwest Region competition in April, where she won the Silver Award. Associate editor Brian Sandalow also won a Silver Award at the regional competition.
This was Modern Casting’s first time competing in the AZBEEs. Over 1,000 entries were submitted to this year’s competition, which includes categories in print, web and design.
Modern Casting, which covers the metalcasting industry, is the flagship magazine of the American Foundry Society.
The American Foundry Society is a dynamic technical and advocacy organization that serves and represents the $33 billion metalcasting industry. AFS is the only association serving the entire industry, including all metals and processes, with a three-part focus on advocacy, education, and innovation. AFS also publishes Modern Casting and Metal Casting Design & Purchasing magazines and presents Metalcasting Congress and CastExpo, the largest metalcasting trade events in North America. Founded in 1896, the organization is based in Schaumburg, Illinois, with an advocacy office in Washington, D.C. More information is available at afsinc.org.
