As the sixth annual Infrastructure Week kicks off, metalcasters are in Washington, D.C., advocating for infrastructure investment as part of the AFS Government Affairs Fly-In.
Metalcasters have many of the same goals as those highlighted during Infrastructure Week, May 14-21: emphasizing the importance of American infrastructure, and improving and investing in this backbone of the nation.
The American Foundry Society knows a strong, resilient infrastructure – everything from roads and bridges to water systems and the energy grid – is critical to the U.S. economy, and that the metalcasting industry is key to the success of our infrastructure. 40% of U.S. metal castings are manufactured for our infrastructure network. At the Government Affairs Fly-In on May 15-16, metalcasters are standing together on Capitol Hill to call on lawmakers to fund infrastructure improvements, with a focus on passing a targeted, substantial investment package to modernize these vital systems.
Earlier this year, AFS joined a large coalition of trade groups pushing for Congress to stop punting on the nation’s infrastructure needs.
Infrastructure Week, a not-for-profit based in Washington, D.C., is led by a steering committee made up of the AFL-CIO, the American Society of Civil Engineers, Building America’s Future, Business Roundtable, the Brookings Metropolitan Policy Program, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Manufacturers, and the Value of Water Campaign.
The American Foundry Society is a dynamic technical and advocacy organization that serves and represents the $33 billion metalcasting industry. AFS is the only association serving the entire industry, including all metals and processes, with a three-part focus on advocacy, education, and innovation. AFS also publishes Modern Casting and Metal Casting Design & Purchasing magazines and presents Metalcasting Congress and CastExpo, the largest metalcasting trade events in North America. Founded in 1896, the organization is based in Schaumburg, Illinois, with an advocacy office in Washington, D.C. More information is available at afsinc.org.
