Two lawmakers on Capitol Hill are being honored by the American Foundry Society for their steadfast support of U.S. metalcasters.
On May 15, Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson and Ohio Rep. Bill Johnson will receive the Metalcasting Industry Eagle Award from AFS. The award is presented annually to lawmakers who support the industry by championing policies that allow metalcasters to innovate, create jobs and fight back against burdensome and costly regulations.
Sen. Ron Johnson is an outspoken advocate for the U.S. metalcasting industry and small businesses, which was reflected during the recent debate over tax reform, when he fought for better rates for S Corporations and other key provisions. He is a strong supporter of infrastructure investment and regulatory reform.
Like his counterpart in the Senate, Rep. Bill Johnson, who represents Ohio’s 6th District, is also a supporter of U.S. metalcasters and small businesses. He has long battled over-regulation, notably as a co-sponsor of the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny Act, or R.E.I.N.S. Act. He is commited to federal programs that support infrastructure investment, job creation and economic development, particularly in rural communities.
In addition, both lawmakers have signed onto letters urging OSHA to modify and/or delay its new silica rule, a far-reaching regulatory standard affecting general industry, including metalcasters.
The Eagle Award will be presented to Sen. Ron Johnson and Rep. Bill Johnson during the AFS Government Affairs Fly-In, when metalcasters converge on the Capitol to meet with legislators and receive briefings on key issues impacting the industry.
