Denny Dotson to Receive Prestigious WFO Award at CastExpo Banquet

Prestigious Medal is Named for the late Jozef Suchy of Poland

March 19, 2025: SCHAUMBURG, IL: The American Foundry Society (AFS), North America’s largest metalcasting association, today announced that past AFS President Denny Dotson will receive the Jozef Suchy Medal from the World Foundry Organization. It will be presented by Jose Javier Gonzalez of the WFO at the annual banquet on April 13 during CastExpo2025 at Atlanta.

Professor Jozef Suchy served the WFO as a President, Treasurer and member of the executive committee for over 20 years. His dedication to the organization, his university and the global foundry industry was testament to the passion he had for the industry.

Dotson was AFS President in 2013-2014 and represented the United States on the WFO Executive Committee for many years. Dotson was best known for his leadership role in Dotson Iron Castings (MPS Mankato, LLC).

“Denny Dotson is known throughout the world as a pre-eminent and visionary metalcasting leader,” commented Doug Kurkul, CEO of AFS. “It’s therefore very appropriate that Denny is the first North American to receive the Suchy Medal.”

During the CastExpo banquet, AFS will also present Gold Medals to Bruce Dienst (Norican Group) and Robert Scholz (TRC Environmental Corp.). Those wishing to attend the banquet may register for CastExpo and the Banquet at this link.

This year’s CastExpo also will host the World Foundry Organization Technical Forum, which will draw metalcasting leaders from around the world to attend WFO meetings and special technical sessions. To learn more about the Technical Forum, contact Brian Began at bbegan@afsinc.org. Admission to WFO Technical Forum sessions is included in the CastExpo full-show Education Pass.

AFS is a longtime member of the World Foundry Organization. Brad Muller (Charlotte Pipe & Foundry) represents the United States and AFS on the WFO Executive Committee. AFS CEO Doug Kurkul represents the Society at the WFO General Assembly.

The American Foundry Society is a dynamic technical and advocacy organization that serves and represents the $50 billion metalcasting industry. AFS is the only association serving the entire industry, including all metals and processes, with a three-part focus on advocacy, education, and innovation. AFS also publishes Modern Casting and Casting Source magazines and presents Metalcasting Congress and CastExpo, the largest metalcasting trade events in North America. Founded in 1896, the organization is based in Schaumburg, Illinois, with an advocacy office in Washington, D.C. More information is available at AFSinc.org.
