AFS Announces Second America Makes IMPACT Project

SCHAUMBURG, Ill - AFS is happy to announce partnership in a second project that is part of the America Makes IMPACT (Improvements in Manufacturing Productivity via Additive Capabilities and Techno-Economic Analysis) program. This 27-month project is titled “Transitioning Best Practices and Technology Improvements for Advanced Technology Printed Sand Equipment” and aims to develop and promote US-based printed sand manufacturing equipment to be used in the production of all castings, with special emphasis on aluminum and magnesium castings for aerospace applications. The primary objective of this program is to broaden the use of American-made printed sand equipment, produced by project partner Lightspeed Concepts, as well as improving on the technologies and techniques developed in the IMPACT 1.0 Project.

AFS will be part of a cross-functional team under the leadership of Honeywell Aerospace and alongside partners from the first IMPACT project, including AFS Corporate Member PDA LLC and others. AFS will coordinate efforts to support industry participation and adoption of this equipment and best practices and the technology transfer of the technologies developed under this program as well as support efforts to reinforce the casting supply chain with US-made and supported printed sand molds for both government and private casting buyers.

Greg Colvin of Honeywell and Jiten Shah of PDA will present project briefing of this project and its precursor project during the Sunday afternoon (3:15 to 4:45 PM) session April 13 at AFS CastExpo in Atlanta, Georgia.
