AFS is calling on lawmakers to approve a bipartisan bill that would avert a default on the national debt while incorporating vital provisions for the manufacturing economy.
The debt ceiling agreement, supported by the White House, the Speaker of the House, and a coalition of congressional leaders, has measures long supported by AFS and its members, including permitting reform and crucial infrastructure investments such as the Mountain Valley Pipeline.
“For too long, onerous permitting burdens and a lack of infrastructure investment have hampered job opportunities, limited manufacturing growth, and driven up the cost of doing business across the country,” said AFS CEO Doug Kurkul. “We’re encouraged to see provisions in the debt ceiling bill that take a step toward fixing those problems by streamlining our outdated permitting process and expanding access to affordable, reliable energy resources. These measures hold tremendous advantages for metalcasters and the nation's economy.”
The House of Representative is expected to vote on the debt limit bill tonight, May 31, 2023.
