AFS welcomes new technical director

The American Foundry Society is pleased to welcome Tom Dore as Technical Director.

Formerly a vice president at AFS Corporate Member Alu-Bra Foundry, Dore has years of hands-on experience in foundry operations, including plant engineering, heat treating, sand casting, customer quality, and sales. Dore has been an active member of the AFS Copper Alloy Division for many years and will serve as liaison for the Copper Alloy, Molding Methods and Materials and Engineering Divisions.

From 1993 to 2017, Dore worked at Alu-Bra, where his responsibilities included part and tool development, conversions, providing recommendations for design and materials, and developing a unique gating and risering system. He has a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University.

“Tom Dore is a great addition to our staff at AFS. He has a wealth of metalcasting knowledge and experience, and his expertise will allow us to further enhance our technical strengths and offerings,” said AFS CEO Doug Kurkul.

The American Foundry Society is a dynamic technical and advocacy organization that serves and represents the $33 billion metalcasting industry. AFS is the only association serving the entire industry, including all metals and processes, with a three-part focus on advocacy, education, and innovation. AFS also publishes Modern Casting and Metal Casting Design & Purchasing magazines and presents Metalcasting Congress and CastExpo, the largest metalcasting trade events in North America. Founded in 1896, the organization is based in Schaumburg, Illinois, with an advocacy office in Washington, D.C. More information is available at afsinc.org.
