Stormwater seminar to help metalcasters create defensible compliance process

When it comes to stormwater regulations, non-compliance can cost foundries hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines and leave them vulnerable to expensive third-party lawsuits. An upcoming seminar from the American Foundry Society aims to teach metalcasters about defensible compliance processes, a necessity for every U.S. foundry.

The AFS Stormwater Compliance Seminar, May 8-9 in Columbus, Ohio, is designed to help metalcasters:
  • create a defensible compliance process;
  • be aware that enforcement can arise from federal, state, or local governments;
  • save on consultant fees; and
  • prepare for lawsuits from environmental organizations.
Enforcement of stormwater regulations is different from compliance with air regulations because stormwater pollutants cannot be measured as precisely as air infractions. This makes enforcement variable and compliance adjustable. This seminar will help you establish verifiable processes to meet compliance demands.

Regulations and compliance can vary extremely from state to state, and local governments often have their own compliance ordinances. This complicates what foundries must be prepared for, but this seminar provides answers including the basics of many state specific programs.

Stormwater consultants charge $2,500-$5,000 for a mitigation plan, but personnel at foundries will be able to do a better job at a lower cost after taking this seminar.

Third-party environmental lawsuits have erupted in recent years, typically from organizations who think the Trump EPA is not enforcing the regulations aggressively enough. Metalcasters have paid fees up to $500,000 for compliance issues and lawsuits. It is projected that 300-400 of these suits will be filed across the country this year.

Larry C. Bowers, a leading stormwater expert in the metalcasting industry, the Corporate Environmental Compliance Director for McWane, Inc., will be the presenter.
