The 28th Annual Environmental Health and Safety conference was held August 9-11 in Milwaukee. The three-day conference included over 20 speakers and covered a variety of topics to improve the health and safety of metalcasting workers.
This year’s keynote speaker, Patrick K. Stevens, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, spoke on Wisconsin’s environmental regulatory program and the current challenges facing manufacturers.
Jeff Hannapel and Stephanie Salmon from the AFS Washington office gave attendees a legislative and regulatory update about current and future environmental and OSHA issues impacting metalcasters and the potential outcomes from the upcoming 2016 election.
The conference also handed out annual service awards from the AFS EHS Division 10:
Also presented, were the 2015 AFS Metalcasting Safe Year Awards given to AFS Corporate Member facilities that achieved one year (365 consecutive calendar days) without a lost time accident.
Participants at the conference were given the opportunity to tour Grede’s Liberty Foundry in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.
Prior to the 2016 EHS Conference, AFS put on an Advanced Waste Seminar. Held August 7-8, the two-day seminar gave a regulatory overview, presentations about generator treatment, byproduct resources, regulations and opportunities, and how to properly handle waste storage and treatment.
The American Foundry Society is a not-for-profit organization formed in 1896. With its headquarters in Schaumburg, Ill., AFS provides members and consumers with information and services to promote and strengthen the metalcasting industry.
