Women in Metalcasting Meet During EHS Conference
Women in Metalcasting (WIM) met at the Wynfrey Hotel in Birmingham, Alabama, during the Environmental Health and Safety Conference on Oct. 30. Organized by WIM Chair Patti Buksa, the meeting was an opportunity for members to network and a chance to say hello.

Report from the AFS Institute
This is an exciting time for the AFS Institute. In November 2017, the Institute translated three popular e-Learning modules to Spanish. The Institute used metalcasting industry experts fluent in Spanish to translate Basic Melt Practices for Cast Iron, Green Sand Compaction, and Big Picture of the Casting Process.

The American Foundry Society (AFS) brought home the message of careers in metalcasting to students, teaches, and public officials during its open house Manufacturing Day event on October 6, 2017.
D.C. Circuit Hears Arguments in Metalcasting Industry's Challenge to OSHA's Silica Rule – What’s Next for Foundries?
AFS, in conjunction with the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), petitioned for review OSHA’s respirable crystalline silica rule. That lawsuit was consolidated with other challenges to the rule in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. The case has been fully briefed and oral argument was held before a three-judge panel on September 26, 2017. The case is now awaiting a decision of the court which could be days or months away.
